VIDEO: What can we do during the Medicare Open Enrollment Period?

Hi Folks! If you’re wondering what you can do during the Medicare Open Enrollment Period, either watch this video that explains it, or read the post below.

So it’s October and you’re seeing all these commercials on TV and you’re getting overwhelmed. All this Medicare advertising, what do I need to do now?

The annual Medicare Open Enrollment Period starts on October 15th and runs till December 7th.

I’m Evan Fein, Medicare specialist at Senior Reserve Group. I’m going to tell you what you can and can’t do during this enrollment period.

If you are on original Medicare with a medicare supplement plan and part D drug plan, this is your one opportunity to make a change to your Part D drug plan for the following year.

If you don’t make any changes during the open enrollment period, you’ll be re-enrolled in that plan for the following January.

Your Medicare supplement plan will not be affected by the annual enrollment period.

That will renew every year on your policy anniversary.

Advantage Plan or Part C

If you have a medicare Advantage plan or Part C, this is one of your opportunity to make a change to your Medicare Advantage plan.

And you can also return to original Medicare.

If you do return to original Medicare and try to purchase a supplement plan, you may be subject to underwriting depending on the state you live in.

Underwriting would be medical questions which you would have to answer based on your prescriptions and health history to qualify for the supplement plan.

If you don’t qualify, you may want to entertain staying on Medicare Advantage at that point.

Any changes you make to these plans would be effective in January of the following year.
