How to Enroll in Medicare – VIDEO

This is a video about How to Enroll in Medicare – Enjoy!

So you’re turning 65 in a few months and you’re getting all this mail and you’re seeing all these commercials and you don’t know what to do.

Do I need to get enrolled into Medicare? How do I get enrolled in Medicare?

What do I need to do?

Hi, I’m Evan Fein, a Medicare Specialist at Senior Reserve Group, and I can help answer all those questions for you.

What you need to do to Enroll

First of all, your Medicare initial enrollment period runs for seven months.

It starts three months before you turn 65, the month of your 65th birthday, and three months after.

You can begin enrolling in that three months before your 65th birthday.

And if you enroll any time before you turn 65, your coverage will start on the first of the month that you turn 65. If you enroll after your 65th birthday in those three months, your coverage will start the beginning of the following month.

Two Ways to Enroll in Medicare

There are two ways to enroll: You can enroll through the Social Security website using your “My Social Security” account, or you can enroll by calling Social Security and setting up an appointment.

One thing to note – if you are taking Social Security (the cash benefits) you do not have to enroll in Medicare; you will be automatically enrolled.

If you are still working for a group of over 20 you can defer your Medicare coverage until you retire.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us – we’d be happy to walk you through the process.
